As the former front man of a band named after Tim Buckley’s album Starsailor, the influences on James Walsh’s songwriting are obvious and previous collaborations with Suzanne Vega confirm his taste for a folkier kind of instrumental rock.

With Time Is Nigh, however, James has gone a bit funkier, a bit more upbeat. The almost stomping Barcelona has an infectious pace and hook, though elsewhere this meanders with contemplation and melodic ease.
