Fat Freddy's Drop
Aotearoa New Zealand’s hi-tek soul machine Fat Freddy’s Drop returns to Europe in 2024 for a new studio album release tour!
Hailing from the wind-swept South Coast of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Fat Freddy’s Drop are internationally regarded as one of the world’s finest live performers. Blending DJ Fitchie’s love of reggae and house with Joe Dukie’s soulful tones, and combined with an exuberant horn section, Freddy’s live shows are renowned for their bold and electric energy.
As a seven-piece band, the Freddy’s sound is a unification of their collective ideas from across a breadth of musical backgrounds and influences; creating an sonic flavour that transcends time and coalesces traditionally opposing genres.
Born from the early noughties era, the seven-headed soul monster has performed over 1000 shows across the globe, and set out on expansive headline tours across Europe. 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of Freddy’s seminal ‘Blackbird’ album released in 2013, and the twentieth anniversary of their first European tour in 2003. These occasions were celebrated with the release of ‘Blackbird Returns’ an album of re-rubs and re-dubs from producer friends around the world, and MARAUDERS handycam mini-series: a raw insight into the inaugural European tour presented by RNZMusic and Transmit.
While Freddys bring a plethora of experience to their craft, they are a truly modern institution through their interest and thirst for technology – a passion harnessed to explore new waves and eras of their music.
With Freddy’s most recent releases during the pandemic era consisting of live records, fans can look forward to a brand-new Fat Freddy’s Drop studio album in 2024; the first since ‘Special Edition Part1’ in 2019. With the ability to connect more deeply with the writing process in the studio, this renewed space and time will allow the band the opportunity to craft, write, play, and meld ideas into a fresh new album.
After a successful 2023 European tour playing headline summer festival shows, the band is building on this energy and momentum as they prepare for their return to the Northern Hemisphere in 2024.
